Doreenae
Overview
Typhlodromus doreenae (Doreenae) is a native predatory mite with a widespread distribution throughout the Mediterranean and temperate areas of southern and western Australia.
Doreenae attacks a range of pest mites and is commonly found in deciduous perennial tree and vine crops including grapevines, almond and pome fruit.
Trials in greenhouse crops have also shown ability to suppress Broad Mite in capsicums and nurseries. More research is required to understand its complete host range.
Pests Doreenae can help you control
You can use Doreenae to control Rust Mite, Bud Mite, Blister Mite and Bunch Mites in winegrapes.
You can also use Doreenae to control Bryobia Mites and Rust Mites in almonds, stone fruit and pome fruit, and other eriophyid mites in a range of crops.
How Doreenae controls pests among crops
Doreenae is a hardy predator, able to survive heatwaves of more than 40oC and naturally inhabits crops in hot and dry districts. It is also fairly tolerant of sulfur and copper applications provided rates are not extreme or too regular. This makes Doreenae a good candidate to improve Integrated Pest Management in grapevine crops. Doreenae can also persist at low levels, feeding on pollen and mould spores as alternate food sources in the absence of prey.
Certain pesticides and fungicides affect Doreenae. Contact your local Biological Services consultant for specific advice.
How you can order Doreenae
You can order Doreenae from Biological Services as loose material at 100,000 mites/litre or as slow-release sachets (500/box).
