Anastatus
Overview
Anastatus is a parasite of the eggs of important horticultural pests such as Fruit Spotting Bug (Amblypleta nitida), Banana Fruit Spotting Bug (A. lutescens), and Spined Citrus Bug (Biprorulus bibax).
Anastatus females are about 4 mm long and are easily mistaken for ants, but they are strong fliers and can detect their prey over long distances. Release them into crops and also nearby native vegetation on boundaries where the pests can breed.
Citrus, avocado, macadamia, lychee, longan, custard apple, papaya, cashew, and passionfruit are suitable crops for Anastatus release.
Pests Anastatus can help you control
You can use Anastatus to control Fruit Spotting Bug (Amblypleta nitida), Banana Fruit Spotting Bug (A. lutescens), and Spined Citrus Bug (Biprorulus bibax).
How Anastatus controls pests among crops
The female Anastatus lays a single egg into the host egg. The Anastatus larva develops inside the egg, consuming the host in the process, and an adult wasp emerges after 3 or 4 weeks.
You can find more technical information about Anastatus on the Bioresources website.
Certain pesticides and fungicides affect Anastatus so please contact your Biological Services Consultant for specific advice.
How you can order Anastatus
You can order Anastatus from Biological Services on cardboard sheets containing parasitized eggs (minimum order is 1000). The Anastatus wasps are reared by Bioresources, a subsidiary of Biological Services.
